The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) is the U.S. Department of Education's central database for student aid. It receives data from schools, agencies that guaranty loans, the Direct Loan program, and other U.S. Department of Education programs.

It provides a centralized, integrated view of your loans and grants, from aid approval through closure. The site is available 24/7, except for periodic maintenance of the database which can occur on the weekends or after hours.

You can use the site to make inquiries about your federal loans and/or grants. It contains a wealth of information, including:

  • loan and/or grant amounts
  • outstanding balances
  • loan statuses, and
  • disbursements.

In order to use the NSLDS web site, however, you will need to provide your Social Security number, the first two letters of your last name, your date of birth, and your PIN.

But before you do that, of course, you need to get a PIN. You can request one at the PIN web site. Don't worry, if you forget it, you can get a copy or a new one at that same site.

If you live in New Jersey and are struggling with payment on federal student loan debt, I may be able to be of assistance. Just download this questionnaire, fill it out, and then fax it to me at 856-686-9911 or e-mail it to me. I will then review it to determine if I can be of assistance and contact you to discuss representation.
